Alan Ogle spent the first 12 years of his career as a business consultant specialising initially as a business and economic consultant concentrating on New Zealand and South Pacific client work.
Since 1981 he has worked as a specialist business consultant to the forest industry in New Zealand and overseas. He spent 19 years contracted principally to the Groome & Associates/ Groome Pöyry Ltd/ Jaakko Pöyry Group. This work has included forestry valuations, project preparation/ design/ feasibility studies, project team management, country forestry sector policy studies, financial and economic analysis, corporate/ business planning, management information systems design/ evaluation, management audits, market studies for forest products, institutional strengthening and reform (including corporatisation and privatisation), and strategic advice on planning for business growth.
Alan has worked on assignments in 27 countries, including most countries in the Asia/ Pacific area plus four in Africa and North/ Central America. As well as a large private sector clientele, he has worked extensively for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs/NZAid. Other clients for overseas work have included UNDP/FAO, DFID UK, AusAID, GTZ Germany, JICA and the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation.
Alan is also a director of Southern Forestry Ltd - a Canterbury based forestry investment and forest management company.
Ogle Consulting Ltd maintains a fulltime administration office in Riccarton, Christchurch. Christchurch has developed as a centre or "cluster" of forestry expertise in New Zealand with the University of Canterbury School of Forestry, Lincoln University and a large number of other professional and technical forestry personnel. As a result Ogle Consulting Ltd regularly subcontracts, and is able to put together teams of other specialists to best match assignment requirements.
